Summer of 1911 in Szechuan “movement of Protection of Railroads” soon turned into nationalistic movement (“Szechuan to the Szechuanese”), 10 legendary failures; 11th: discover of plan on Oct. 9 -> turned into success with taking control of Wuchang, 2 months later all provinces of Central and South china had proclaimed their independence, Sun Yat-sen arrived in Shanghai Dec. 24, Provisional Pres of Republic of china, taking office 1st day of New Year in Nanking

After Yuan’s death, KMT and sun in power, new military academy, support from ussr, wanted to unite china, died 1925, chian his successor

Training with jap. Army, returned in time to assist in efforts to overthrow Qing, military aide to sun yat-sen in Guanzhou government,, went with sun to ussr, est. commander of new Whampoa milit. Acad., after sun’s death position stronger, launched northern expedition to Shanghai and nanjing (sun’s dream), followed coop. With ccp until 27, when started civil war b/w kmt and ccp, seized at sian 36, to stop civil war and unite against japan --> 2nd united front 37-45, after WWII, civil war, forced to exile in Taiwan in 49 (CCP takes power – PRC)

1921-26: reason: international owners unfair, canton has either outcome all to gain, nothing to lose (rivalry with HK), organize strikes, bring minimal money and own food --> bad for economy, british get replacement workers, persuaded to leave before ships land in HK, canton becomes unofficial capital of china, declared most radical region by ussr (KMT & CCP, both find refuge in that region), british have to accept workers back (police side w/ strikers – nationalism)

Started by sun’s negotiations, completed by chiang in sun’s spirit, triple mobilization: workers, students, peasants, march to shanghai, attack army & police, invite troops to join, take shanghai, also northern expedition overthrow Beijing gvt., set up new kmt gvt (see above), break 1927 b/c of chiang, want to purge china from comm. on another note, i could be by far worse off, if it was noto for M...henry is constantly trying to feed me, and deserves praise for that, otherwise i would not eat; kamui is being genki, and deserves praise, otherwise i would not be genki ever.
M is great, maybe b/c in some ways she knows how i work..so the timing of jokes, niceties etc. is perfect.
and when i'm down, and can't get up, and don't want to bear with genki, or would puke if i ate, and i still do both, she would send me a link, help me with my work. in a very unobtrusive, matter of fact way.
